The Golden Hole, located in Wooroonooran National Park in Far North Queensland, is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. This site is situated on the banks of the Russell River and features a wide and deep swimming area with sandy beaches. However, visitors should be aware that crocodile warning signs have been posted in the area in recent years. In addition to the swimming area (seemingly no longer swimmable due to crocs), there is also an expansive grassy picnic area that is often used by the locals for gatherings and picnics.
How to get there
To reach the Golden Hole, take the Bruce Highway south from Cairns until you reach the town of Mirriwinni. From there, turn right off the highway and follow the bitumen road until you reach Josephine Falls, which is approximately 8 kilometres away. The Golden Hole is located at the end of this road, so simply follow the road until you reach the site.
